What it hears.
The nursery phone listens and watches so you don’t have to strain for every sound. Here is what it picks up, what it tells you about straight away, and what it can’t do.
It tells you straight away.
These send an alert to your phone.
- Crying. After a few seconds of steady crying, so one squawk doesn’t set it off.
- Out of view. If your baby leaves the picture, or someone else comes into the room. This one needs some light.
It notes the rest.
These are logged with the time and shown live, without an alert.
- Coughing. Each one noted, so a rough night is there in the log the next morning.
- Laughing. Saved as a short Moments clip, because some sounds are worth keeping.
- Speech nearby. Noted, so you know when someone was talking in the room.
What it can’t do.
We’d rather be a reliable ear than a confident guess.
- It never says why. It tells you your baby is crying, not whether they’re hungry or tired. You can tag the reason yourself in the log.
- It can’t get past Do Not Disturb. Allow Baby’s Day In in Do Not Disturb or Focus, or keep them off at night, so alerts reach you.
- It isn’t a medical device. It’s an extra pair of ears. Keep up your own checks.
Questions about what it hears.
No. The listening runs on the nursery phone itself. Only what it heard and how sure it was go to your phone.
The live picture and sound travel encrypted, phone to phone, and never reach our servers.
About three seconds of steady crying. A loud, clear cry can count a little sooner. That way a passing whimper doesn’t wake you.
Listening, yes: sound doesn’t need light. The out-of-view alerts do, so they pause in a dark room.
