Our terms and how we handle your data.
This covers the terms of using Baby's Day In and our commitments around your data. For the full detail on how that data is stored and protected, see Data privacy.
1Introduction & Service Definition
Baby's Day In (BDI) is a hardware-free, two-smartphone monitoring architecture designed to mitigate parental cognitive load and back up a mother's instinct with intelligent data. This Master Terms of Service and Privacy Policy ("Agreement") governs your use of the BDI mobile application and services.
By utilising BDI, you are establishing a secure, encrypted link between a Nursery Camera Phone (the secondary device) and a Primary Parent Phone (the monitoring device).
-
Live video transmission Real-time streaming from the nursery to your primary device, encrypted (WebRTC DTLS-SRTP), streamed device-to-device and never uploaded to our servers.
-
Cry and sound detection On-device audio processing that recognises crying, screaming, coughing, safety alarms and emergency sounds. It reports that a sound occurred and how confident it is. It does not determine why a baby is crying.
-
Auto-Soothe Automated audio triggers — lullabies, white noise, or your own voice — to settle your infant before an alert reaches you.
-
Activity logging & wellness analytics Feeds, changes, sleep and growth that you log, summarised into weekly patterns. Sleep totals are shown beside general World Health Organization (WHO) sleep-duration guidance. We do not plot growth percentiles.
This service is designed as a non-clinical support tool. Its use does not constitute a provider–patient relationship or professional medical advice.
2Medical Disclaimer & Liability
Baby's Day In is a wellness and informational tracking tool, not a regulated Class II or Class III medical device. BDI is not intended to be "substantially equivalent" to any FDA-cleared clinical monitor under the 510(k) pathway. We do not claim to provide clinical accuracy for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of any disease or cardiorespiratory condition.
In accordance with the AAP, home cardiorespiratory monitors should not be used as a strategy to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). BDI does not prevent, treat, or diagnose SIDS. There is currently no medical evidence that consumer physiologic monitors are life-saving.
Medical applications have a documented track record of inaccuracy — studies have shown blood pressure apps falsely reassuring 80% of hypertensive users. BDI is positioned strictly as a wellness tool. You acknowledge and accept that:
-
Healthy infants may experience innocuous physiological events which do not require clinical intervention.
-
Motion artefacts or environmental variables may trigger false-positive alarms.
-
BDI is not liable for "cascades of events" resulting from these alarms, including but not limited to unnecessary emergency department visits, blood tests, x-rays, or hospital admissions.
-
You assume all risk for clinical decisions made based on app notifications.
Wellness logs shown beside WHO guidance are for informational reference only. They demonstrate general population norms and must never replace the professional judgement of a paediatrician.
3Affirmative Express Consent
By activating the Service, you provide Affirmative Express Consent for the following:
-
Sensitive Health Logging You voluntarily attest to logging sensitive data, including medication, vaccine history, and temperature.
-
Audio/Video Processing You authorise the app to transmit live video and process audio for cry detection and Auto-Soothe triggers.
-
Safe-Sleep Practices You agree to maintain standard safe-sleep environments. Adhering to these safety protocols is the primary way you "earn your rest," allowing the app to serve as a secondary backup to your physical presence.
4Technical Safeguards & Security
BDI is built "secure by design", and the measures below are what the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act asks of a connected product.
| Area | What we do | PSTI alignment |
|---|---|---|
| Devices | Every paired device is listed in the app and can be removed by you at any time | Security requirement definition |
| Encryption | Transport encryption (WebRTC DTLS-SRTP) for all video and audio streams, streamed device-to-device and never uploaded; no default or shared credentials; unique device pairing | No universal default passwords; secure update channel |
| Monitoring | Anomaly monitoring on streaming connections; app integrity verified by the platform at install and update | Vulnerability reporting contact published |
| Disclosure | Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process; incident response within legally mandated timeframes | CVD policy publicly available |
| Updates | Updates ship through the App Store and Google Play; minimum support period disclosed | Minimum security update period defined |
5Privacy & data
We do not use advertising or social-media tracking, and we never sell your data. To run the service we use a small set of trusted processors, disclosed in full in our Privacy Policy.
-
Processors & analytics Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Messaging, Cloud Functions) stores your baby's profile, alerts, detected-sound events and soothe recordings on your behalf — your activity and health logs stay on your own devices; Cloudflare forwards your encrypted video/audio when a direct link isn't possible and cannot read it. Anonymous diagnostics and usage analytics (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance) never include video, audio, your baby's name, PINs or messages, and can be turned off in Settings → Preferences → Privacy.
-
No Data Monetisation We never share, sell, or trade your family's data with data brokers.
-
Minimal retention Video and audio streams are processed in real time only. Your activity and health logs stay on your own devices and are shared phone to phone. What we do hold on your behalf — your baby's profile, alerts, detected-sound events and soothe recordings — is retained only for the duration of your active account, and expires on its own on the schedule set out in our Privacy Policy.
You possess full sovereignty over your data, including:
-
01
Right of Access Comprehensive viewing of all logged data at any time.
-
02
Right to Portability Export "Doctor-Ready" reports for paediatric consultations.
-
03
Right to Erasure Permanent, immediate deletion of all parent and infant records.
6UK PSTI Act & Breach Notification
In compliance with the UK PSTI Act and IMDRF guidelines, BDI maintains a Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process. We invite stakeholders and security researchers to report vulnerabilities to our security team for remediation.
In the event of a breach of unsecured PHI (Protected Health Information), we warrant that we will notify affected users and the relevant regulatory authorities within the legally mandated timeframes.
7Software Lifecycle & Support
BDI is a wellness product, not a certified medical device, and we do not claim conformance to medical-device standards. What we do commit to:
-
Security updates We publish updates through the App Store and Google Play for the minimum support period disclosed on our store listings.
-
Tuned against false alarms Detection has to hear a sound persist, not merely occur once, before it raises an alert. We tune those thresholds against real recordings, because an alert that cries wolf is worse than no alert at all.
-
Vulnerability disclosure We operate a Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure process and fix reported issues on a published timeline.
8Termination & Account Deletion
We want to reduce your mental load, not add to it. If you decide BDI has fulfilled its purpose for your family, you may delete your account at any time via the app settings.
This action triggers the permanent, irreversible deletion of all baby logs and personal data from our systems. It is our way of helping you clear the "invisible load" — leaving you with one less thing to worry about as you move into the next stage of motherhood.
All logs, recordings, and reports are purged permanently. There is no retention window, no waiting period.
9Acknowledgment & Contact
By using Baby's Day In, you attest that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms. We are honoured to support you in finding those small pockets of rest.
